Grazing Riparian Areas - General Principles for Grazing Livestock in Riparian Areas

While each ranching operation and grazing allotment is unique, there are general guidelines which should be considered when determining an appropriate riparian grazing strategy. How they should be applied to specific situations will depend on the nature of the riparian area, the resources available, and the objectives of the operation. Nevertheless, the livestock operator or land manager who seeks to maintain or establish healthy riparian areas would do well to have these principles firmly in mind before undertaking any specific activity.
