Grazing Riparian Areas - General Principles for Grazing Livestock in Riparian Areas

2. Incorporate management of your riparian areas into the overall management plan for your whole operation.

Riparian areas comprise only a small portion of any ranch or grazing allotment, and proposed actions on them must be managerially feasible as well as ecologically sound. Don't neglect the overwhelming portion of your operation while you focus only on riparian areas. Do consider the impact on your overall operation of actions intended to improve or maintain your riparian areas. Remember: what you do in the riparian areas may affect your uplands and vice versa.
